Vision Source Longmont

Providing state-of-the-art optometric care, including comprehensive vision examinations, fitting of contact lenses, refractive surgery co-management, treatment of glaucoma and other eye diseases, and low vision care.

The practice began on February 3, 1950, when Dr. Richard A. Barnes opened his practice at 464 Main Street. On July 1, 1956, Dr. Robert E. Schwartz purchased one-half of the practice and the building from Dr. Barnes, thus forming the partnership of Drs. Barnes and Schwartz. On August 8, 1975, Dr. John Mees joined the practice as an associate with the intent of buying into the practice. On September 1, 1976, Dr. Mees purchased 50% of the practice from Dr. Barnes and the practice was now known as Drs. Schwartz and Mees. Dr. Barnes continued to practice on a part-time basis introducing Dr. Mees to the practice, community, and his established patients. Dr. Schwartz & Mees continued to practice at this location until October 1982 when they moved into a remodeled home at 800 3rd Avenue. The practice changed its name to Optometric Associates. In March 1984, Drs. Larry Forest, Clark Blackwood, and Dr. Mees purchased Dr. Schwartz’s practice and the 3 doctors practiced together at this location for many years. About 1989, the practice changed it name to Eagle Vision and Eye Clinic.

In June 1993, Dr. Mees left the larger group practice, which at that time had grown to 5 doctors and 16 staff. Dr. Mees formed Mees Eyecare Center, P.C. at 1250 S. Hover Street, Suite D. He practiced solo until April 1999 when Dr. Jason L. Kaminski arrived to begin practice as an associate. On July 1, 2001, Dr. Kaminski purchased 49% of the shares of the corporation and the practice was now known as Vision Source: Mees and Kaminski Eyecare Center, P.C. In April 2003, the practice moved to its current and larger location at 2130 Mountain View Avenue, Suite E in Longmont, and legally changed its name to Mees & Kaminski Eyecare, P.C.

In July 2003, Dr. Kaminski purchased another 1% to become equal partners with Dr. Mees. On January 5, 2009, Dr. Kaminski purchased Dr. Mees’ 50% ownership and became sole owner of the practice, while Dr. Mees still practiced as an employee of the corporation. Dr. Mees eventually decreased his doctor days from three, to two, to one day per week. On July 28, 2011, he celebrated his last day of patient care and retired from Mees & Kaminski Eyecare, P.C. After keeping the name of Mees & Kaminski Eyecare, P.C for about five months, Dr. Kaminski officially changed the name of the practice to Vision Source Longmont on January 4, 2012. This name better reflects Dr. Kaminski's affiliation with the national Vision Source brand of independent eye care offices throughout North America.
